They were very serious about the process of making and wearing a headpiece that only priests, emperors and highly decorated warriors got to wear them. The feathers used were a symbol of their feather God who was close to their sun God; they had a God for everything! It's a good thing the Aztecs don't know that anyone can wear them these days, they would probably sacrifice us to one of their Gods if they found out.
